Nethermind published Nethermind 2.2.0 on Oct. 16, 2026, an Ethereum execution client release that adds an opt-in SendPolicy plugin. NFA.

Core release details

The release reached GitHub on the stated date as a direct drop for operators running the client. It bundles the new SendPolicy plugin along with updates to tracing methods and logging. Most operators can apply the changes in place without a full resync or config edits.

What the SendPolicy plugin delivers

Node owners receive an opt-in tool that reviews every transaction routed through the node's JSON-RPC endpoint. The plugin compares each transaction against a rule file written by the owner. Transactions that violate the rules are refused before they leave the node.

Rule scope and default state

Rules inside the file can target allowed senders, specific destinations, and token contract calls. The plugin stays off by default, so operators must turn it on and supply their own rule file. This setup keeps the change under operator control rather than automatic.

Tracing and JavaScript updates

Debug tracing now includes Geth-compatible elements such as a keccak256 preimage tracer and a txIndex option on debug_traceCall. Each tracing request runs inside its own V8 runtime, which allows JavaScript-based traces to operate in parallel. Trace methods also align with the proposed trace spec used by Erigon and Reth, with corresponding adjustments to several output formats.

Operational logging addition

A periodic log line now records how far the node's head sits behind the current chain tip. The line appears at regular intervals and gives operators a simple view of sync progress without extra tools.

Upgrade path for existing nodes

For most setups the move to 2.2.0 functions as an in-place upgrade. No resync is required and existing configuration files remain valid. Operators who choose the SendPolicy plugin simply enable it and add their rule file after the upgrade completes.

Practical outcome for node operators

The release centers on giving operators direct control over transaction handling through the new plugin while improving tracing compatibility and basic monitoring. The changes remain contained to the execution client layer and follow the documented release notes.
